Artificial intelligence is being introduced into electronic warfare (EW) and signals intelligence (SIGINT) workflows to help operators recognise and classify unfamiliar radio emissions more efficiently.
German signal-analysis specialist PROCITEC GmbH and US-based DataShapes AI have unveiled ClassifAI, a new AI-powered signal classification capability designed to help military operators identify unknown signals across the electromagnetic spectrum.
The solution combines PROCITEC’s go2signals software environment with DataShapes AI’s GlobalEdge Learning platform. The combination enables operators to label unfamiliar emissions and train the system to recognise their characteristics, allowing newly identified signals to be added to a local signal library.
When an unknown emission is detected, an operator can select and label it directly within the go2MONITOR spectrum interface. ClassifAI subsequently guides the user through a training process that enables the system to learn the signal’s characteristics. Once trained, the AI can identify the same or similar emissions during future sessions.
The approach is intended to support operations in increasingly complex electromagnetic environments, where the number and variety of signals can make rapid identification more challenging. PROCITEC said the system is particularly suited to signals in the V/UHF spectrum.
Rather than replacing the operator, ClassifAI uses an “operator-in-the-loop” model. Human personnel remain responsible for selecting signals, providing training input and applying their expertise, while the AI assists with recognition and classification. This enables signal libraries to be updated as new emissions are encountered.
ClassifAI is integrated into version 26.2 of PROCITEC’s go2signals software and is available as an optional add-on to PROCITEC solutions. Its integration into the existing software environment means operators can access the AI capability through established signal-analysis workflows rather than using a separate application.

The partnership brings together PROCITEC’s expertise in signal analysis, monitoring and software-defined signal processing with DataShapes AI’s focus on real-time radio-frequency signal classification, adaptive signal learning and tactical-edge spectrum analysis.
By allowing operators to teach the system about previously unfamiliar emissions, the companies aim to provide a more adaptable approach to signal recognition, enabling AI-supported classification capabilities to evolve alongside changing electromagnetic environments.
